Erik is the descendant of Somerled, the King of the Isles when the Norse ruled Northern Scotland. From this bloodline, he gets his fierce fighting ability as well as a love, and affinity for the sea. He's never met a swimming challenge he can't beat or a wind he can't tame. He's always been happiest in or around water and often gets a little twitchy when land-locked for too long. He's sarcastic and charming and never wants for female companionship because of it, to him, though, lasses are just like the winds. Something to be tamed and played with, but there's always another wind just down the open sea waiting for him to try his hand at it. His fighting style is more pirate than nobility, fight hard and fight dirty if you have to, so long as you come out on the winning side. He follows none of the chivalrous codes of the English nobles, but that doesn't mean he will fight to the death if someone close to him is in danger. He's more than willing to die in battle and follows the Highland, and Viking, code of death before surrender. He loves any challenge presented to him and never backs away from it, mostly because he doesn't believe there's any way he could possibly lose. Due to his skills, he rarely does. History

Erik spent much of his younger years working as a gallowglass mercenary in Ireland. There he learned to fight, and fight well, with anything from battle axe to long-sword. When the Scots started to fight the English in earnest for independence, he returned to his homeland because his ancestors blood called for it. After William Wallace's defeat and execution at Falkirk, Erik agreed to join with Robert Bruce's bid for the Scottish throne, but on his terms. He would work with Tor MacLeod and train to use the Highland pirate fighting techniques to help Bruce win the crown. He is one of eleven Highland warriors, all the best in their particular fields, fighting in secret for Bruce. He spent months on the Isle of Skye with MacLeod, honing his battle skills and forming a brotherhood with the others in the Guard. Each are known by their war names, but those names are only used rarely to keep their identities secret from those outside the Guard. He arrives at the Nexus not long after helping rescue Tor's wife, Christina, but before the start of his own story.
